what we're up to

after a very trying (and tiring) summer in alaska, scott is back in grand rapids and has been back to school for about three weeks. so far it's going pretty well. wendi, having stayed in alaska to finish out the summer, has one day of work left and then she'll be loading up the car and heading down to the lower 48. for those of you keeping track, this is the longest scott and wendi have been apart (aside from the two decades or so before they met) and our conclusion is that it is not very fun.

we're up in alaska and having a splendid time. this summer is proving to be a little more of an adjustment than the last two, mainly because we miss our beautiful apartment and friends and family in grand rapids. in other news, scott wrote yet another new blog, his second in two months (which may be a new record) and it's kind of a big one. so check it out.

scott wrote a new blog, his first in over a year(but don't get too excited, it's not that interesting). we're pretty much settled in in grand rapids. wendi is still working part-time through a temp agency and scott is loving his greek class. we're starting to get excited about alaska, and we should be heading that way in just over two weeks. stops are planned for chicago, colorado and missoula.

we moved to grand rapids and got an apartment a couple weeks ago. wendi is working part-time through a temp agency and scott is sitting in on a second semester greek class for the remainder of the semester so he can jump straight into second year greek when he goes to grand valley state university to finish his bachelor's degree in the fall.

a little about us

for those of you that we haven't kept in touch with quite as well as we should have liked, this is what we're up to these days.

scott and wendi were married june 18, 2005 in kingston, mi, after which we took a five-day honeymoon to the dominican republic. upon arriving home and returning to the daily grind, we found, much to our surprise, that we hate work. not our particular jobs at the moment, but just work in general. so we decided to stop working and travel the world for a little while.

our global trek began january 27th, 2006. the first leg of the trip has taken us through 30 or so of these united states (as well as 3 canadian provinces) visiting friends and family, ultimately ending up in alaska for a four-month "work-holiday" where we have seasonal jobs near denali national park.

the second leg of our trip (november 2006-march 2007) took us through central and south america for five months of fun with spanish, followed by another long, arduous summer in alaska.

right now we're settling down in grand rapids for a couple years so scott can finally finish school. our plans after that are still up in the air.

current possible plans for the distant future include:

living somewhere overseas for 6 months to 2 years
an extensive tour of southern and eastern europe, the middle east and morocco
scott finishing his bachelor's degree and then proceeding on to a master's program (possibly at the university of michigan)
opening a cafe in a college town, most likely somewhere in michigan
and many years down the road, children

these are all in the "we'd like to do someday" category and we'll let you know if we actually take steps toward making them happen.

where we've been
